You can get so much out of Library Books. These pieces caught my attention as so as I glanced at the page. The stripy colours were shocking to the eye and having them repeated in order gave the viewer an illussion that they were moving away from or towards you.

The bead work in this image helps to outline and frame the other colors, and makes it appear a little more busy and interesting that it originally would have been.

This piece is part of a traditional style of dress originally worn in Africa, it is now currently being preserved in a museum for the world to see. The complexity of the skirt was just mind-boggling, the layers upon layers of stuff, and the beads and buttons that were sewn on top of those layers. I can imagine it would have been very heavy to wear. I like the color skeem in these two pictures, lots of orange/red, black, brown, white, and tuskin yellow, very beautiful and rich.

An unusual checker board, who needs actural checker pieces when you can use lids.

If you have to many lids why not use them? Check out the lid bag. An interesting way to recycle.

I do like these repetitive patterns in designs, from a distance this looks like a flower or an optical illusion.

When I look at this picture I see a line of chains incasing a string sewn across the page. This pattern would look very good on a ribbon, sewn to the rim or strap of a bag, or hem of a dress.

Beautifully sewn embroidory, I love the preciseness of the lines and the detail in the flowers.

This piece looks like a combination of different types of processes. I can see, Knitting, Crochet, Cross-stitch, and I'm not to sure, but the red/brown background could be woven.

I put this picture in for fun, the use of the different colours and materials was just brilliant. It creates a very unique and pleasant color palette.

Very carefully hand sewn cushion.

A striking combination of woven material with bead work on top.

Repeated patterns, with a slight change in the colour palette.

I really enjoyed the bizarre birds made of simple stripes in this picture. The Stripes are thick and precise and gives the piece a lot of block color, which makes it more eye catching.

I enjoy looking at the art from the 1960-70s, I have found a lot of their work, apart from just being bizarre and crazy, has a lot of similar color combinations to the traditional weaves and patterns from Africa.
I especially like the Black Stripes overlapping the lighter background. It makes the image look dominating, bold, and daring. I could make this in the print and dye workshop. This would make an unusual skirt or a good top/t-shirt to wear.

Beautiful, vibrant stripes showing off a strong bold design. Interesting to look at.

More beautiful prints, from the 60's. I find their patterns tend to be fun and have an interesting twist from the originals.

Cakes

I took these photographs up in Lincoln in the Bailgate.

These Cakes are beautiful they have been so delicately made, and dare I say look delicious. However the shop where I took these pics sold soaps and at a closer look you can tell. Imagine having luxury soaps like that in your bathroom. CAUTION! (keep out of reach from children) these are not edible!

Beautiful Snow

I love the winter season. It always comes as a wonderful surprise to see the snow settle outside your window.

The ice has made beautiful patterns on the window and only lets a little bit of light through, and the small ice particles sparkle in the sun light.

The vibrant green against the white and blue was an unusual site, and I thought it added a bit more diversity to the picture, and makes the colours appear sharper.

Leaving NUA Library in the Snow, I think I was one of the few people on my course who couldn't wait to get outside in the snow. I love it!
